$284 Skin Moisturizer?

Annie’s tempted to buy a new skin moisturizer that’s supposed to help get rid of her dry skin.

She asked for my opinion.

Actually, it’s more like her husband wants me to “talk some sense into her.”

Apparently, he thinks spending $284 on a bottle of skin moisturizer is too much for him.

I laughed and told them both about the new book I just finished reading.

The book is called Breath.

It’s written by journalist James Nester. If you want to sleep better, look younger, and stay healthy forever, or at least for as long as you can, this is a must-read!

I got into this book because he talked about the importance of breathing through the nose.

As you know, I, too, have been talking about that for a while. Because I now consider this the NUMBER ONE anti-aging secret.

Before you consider doing anything to help yourself stay young and look beautiful, and I mean ANYTHING, make sure the first thing you do is breathe through your nose and NOT through your mouth!

Before considering botox, make sure you first breathe through the nose.

Before getting a filler, make sure you first breathe through the nose.

Before you get your eyebrow tattooed, before getting a facial, before buying the next bottle of lotions and potions (or $284 Skin Moisturizer), MAKE SURE YOU'RE FIRST BREATHING THROUGH YOUR NOSE!

Yes.  Breathing through your nose and not through your mouth is so important, I’ll even put that before getting a microcurrent treatment.

(Actually, I think this is sooo important and effective in helping you stay ageless and look beautiful, that we’ve officially made this part of the Face Fitness workout! We do that during the "warmup" portion of the Face Fitness workout, to help get the circulation flowing and your face ready for the best result.)

James Nester, the author of Breath, wanted to prove how bad mouth breathing is for our health.

He paid a nasal and sinus surgeon,  Dr. Jayakar Nayak, from the Stanford Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Center $5,000 to plug his nose with silicone plugs for ten days, just to see how his body would react.

Here’s what he said about the whole experience:

"I went from snoring a couple of minutes a night to, within three days, I was snoring four hours a night," he says of the forced mouth-breathing. "I developed sleep apnea. My stress levels were off the charts. My nervous system was a mess... I felt awful."

Not only will breathing through your mouth make you feel awful, it will make you look older and less beautiful.

Think about a couch potato, slouching on the sofa, not engaging her core muscles.

When you breathe through your mouth and not through your nose, your whole face is slouching because the tongue (which is the “core muscle” for the face) isn’t supporting your face. You’re just willy-nilly letting gravity take over and pull your face down.

Breathing through the nose also helps the body conserve 40% more moisture, so you’ll have less dry mouth and dry skin, which is what happened to Dr. Yen.

Just like me, he’s been focusing on nose breathing for a few months now, and he told me his mouth doesn't feel dry in the morning anymore.

His wife told him his skin feels smoother, and his kids told him his breath doesn't stink any more.

I told Annie to give this a try and wait on the $284 cream.

She didn’t want to listen. She bought the cream anyway.  Guess you can’t help everyone every time :(
