Boost your collagen-the “Skincare Diet”

Do you need more collagen?

A look in the mirror might tell you. Do you look pasty, tired out, or washed out? Is your complexion not its usual glowing self or showing newly popped up wrinkles or creases?

Avoid sugar and over-processed foods, which contribute to inflammation and acne. Too much dairy, even if you’re not lactose intolerant, can play havoc and contribute to over production of oil (sebum) and clogged pores.

Are you feeling like staying home and staying in, or wondering where your get-up-and-go went, and noticing droops and sags in your skin?

You may need more collagen. Collagen helps with system anti-inflammation, bone and joint health, and (of course!) skin wellness. It affects elasticity and bounce and not getting enough will contribute to more wrinkles!

Signs of losing collagen

Signs your collagen is thinning are the appearance of laugh lines and mini crow’s feet—even in your twenties.  According to the Cleveland Clinic, you might also see:

  • Wrinkles and crepey skin

  • Stiffer, less flexible tendons and ligaments

  • Shrinking, weakening muscle

  • Joint pain or osteoarthritis due to worn cartilage

  • Gastrointestinal problems due to thinning of the lining in your digestive tract

What’s collagen do, exactly?

Collagen is a protein needed for healthy skin and joints. “It’s found in the tendons, ligaments, skin, cornea, cartilage, bone, and blood vessels.” It makes up 75 to 80 % of your skin.  Without it, your skin wrinkles, sags, and feels loose and thinner.

“To make collagen, your body combines amino acids — nutrients from protein-rich foods such as beef, chicken, fish, beans, eggs and dairy products. You might find that adopting the “skincare” diet makes a big difference!

“The process also requires vitamin C, zinc and copper. (Get vitamin C from citrus fruits, red and green peppers, tomatoes, broccoli and greens. Minerals from meats, shellfish, nuts, whole grains and beans.

“As you age, your body may no longer absorb nutrients as well or synthesize them so efficiently,” according to the Cleveland Clinic. And that’s when you notice the signs.

How can you avoid losing collagen?

Limit sun exposure, definitely don’t smoke, and eat a healthy diet. And (my go to for How to boost collagen!), use an anti-aging treatment to boost collagen production in your skin such as microcurrent and plump up any lines and wrinkles.

·           Eat high-quality protein such as fish, beans, eggs, and dairy

·           Fiber, fatty acid rich oils, fruits and vegetables and spices

·          Lots of Vitamin B3, A, C, zinc, and copper (citrus, tomatoes, etc.

“Multiple studies support the role of electricity in cell regeneration.” For years, we’ve used microcurrent in different frequencies and waveforms to treat everything from wounds to migraines to chronic pain.  Microcurrent is also great for skin.

“On a muscular level, the microcurrent acts like a personal trainer to tone and shorten muscle fibers. On a dermal level, there is serious anti-aging action going on…

Your skin gets its lift and glow back—as the microcurrent treatment fills in lines and wrinkles. Your skin feels young (and bouncy!). This is why over 12,000 very happy Maxine Warsh clients choose microcurrent and love it!
